ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad High Court granted interim bail to former chairman Senate Nayyar Bokhari and his son Jarar Bokhari in a case pertaining to slapping a special branch constable.
According to the details, the accused were granted interim bail till May 16 for security bonds of Rs 20,000 each, a day after their arrest warrants were issued. Bukhari was advised by the government members to acquire protective bail after a case was lodged against him for thrashing a policeman in F-8 court.
A case was registered against Bokhari and his official guard under sections 353, 186 and 506 of the PPC, the police approached civil judge and magistrate Jawad Hussain Adil for an arrest warrant. The judge issued the warrant on these charges in response.
Earlier, Nayar Bokhari has filed application in Islamabad High Court demanding fool proof protection during court hearing over police torture case. Bukhari had claimed to not have manhandled the man but CCTV footage disproved the claim.
CCTV footage of the incident revealed that Bokhari’s son, Jarar Bokhari, slapped the special branch constable. The victimized policeman had attempted to search Bukhari as part of standard procedure to which the influential person took offence.
Arrest warrants for both father and son have been issued by Magistrate Jawad Hussain Adil. The inspector general had vowed to set an example out of the incident.
However, Opposition Leader in National Assembly Khurshid Shah had criticised the law enforcement agency’s move against him maintaining that a policeman could not be dressed in civil while on duty.
