ISLAMABAD: National Assembly’s Opposition Leader Khursheed Shah on Thursday challenged Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar to turn over the ‘Malik Fahad murder case’ to the Sindh police – saying that it would be solved within a week.
Former senator Mohammad Mian Soomro’s nephew Malik Fahad was killed in an armed clash on Monday – while attempting to mediate between two parties. Khursheed Shah lambasted Nisar’s ‘Safe Cities’ project – which was launched in the capital in June – that a murder took place despite the much-lauded project and thousands of CCTV cameras in the city.
“Islamabad’s Safe Cities project had 3,000 cameras (CCTV) installed in the city as well as its entry points and still, he (Fahad Malik) was killed in broad daylight,” Shah said.
After the tall claims made by Nisar, the case should be handed over to the Sindh police which will solve the case within a week, Shah said. He also lashed out at Nisar’s threats to reopen corruption cases against him and Aitzaz Ahsan – Leader of the opposition in the Senate.
“Whenever I speak out against the government, I am threatened with the reopening of cases against me,” Shah said, “If there is evidence against Aitzaz Ahsan and I then why are we not arrested yet? The government threatens the opposition whenever it is criticised.”
Shah was speaking at Soomro’s home where he went to offer his condolences. “The government is trying to arrest the murderers and bring them to justice as soon as possible,” said Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, who was also present at Soomro’s house to offer his condolences.
